IM KRIEG: Hamoukar*

HAMOUKAR*. Das Morgengrauen. – The Dawn.

Da unten am Fluss
grünt Frische
alles was wächst
schwimmen die Fische
nahe zum Ufer
abends das Wild
am Waldesrand steht
die da unten
wie leben sie gut

Down by the river
freshness greens
all that grows
the fish swim
close to the bank
evenings the deer
stand at forest’s edge
those down there
how well they live

mit Wasser und Wiese
Sonne und Wald
uns bleiben bloß
Dürre
und Kälte und Stein
Doch lässt sich
aus dem Unrecht
eine Waffe schmieden scharf

with water and meadow
sun and woods
all that’s left for us
is drought
and cold and stone
Yet from injustice
a sharp weapon
can be forged

das Tal beginnt am Berg
zu denen da unten
werden wir kommen
nehmen das Licht und die Wärme
die satten Magen
die Zufriedenheit
nehmen den Frieden
den sie nicht mit uns geteilt
keiner wird ihn besitzen

the valley begins at the mountain
we will join
those down there
and take the light and warmth
the full stomachs
the contentment
we’ll take the peace
they didn’t share with us
no one will possess it
